How do I start, run and end a live stream?

Step by step process of using the live stream feature.

To Start

Log in to the artst web app and click on “Go Live” in the left side menu.

Start a Live Stream

Start by setting up an Unlisted live stream on YouTube. If you need help with setting this up, check out this article. Make sure your live stream is running - you’ll know your live when the red “LIVE” indicator and timer is shown to be increasing each second.

Click on the Share button on your YouTube Live Stream and copy the URL. Paste this URL into the Stream URL input and if the URL is valid, the live feed will appear above. This is a good opportunity to check the audio and video quality.

Now enter the remaining details for your live stream including a title, description and tags. Tags relate to this specific live stream which can help your members find the content they’re interested in. For example, if you post a cooking show, use tags such as cooking, discussion, tutorial, comedy, etc.

Coming soon: members can search for artists and their content using tags.

You can upload a thumbnail - a photo that’s used as the display piece on your artst Hub when a user is browsing your content. If you’re interested in learning more about how to create effective thumbnails, check out this article. You can also use your default thumbnail which is set and changed in your Profile Settings. A default thumbnail is a thumbnail that can be easily used every time you create a post, saving you time and hassle.

You must also decide who can access this live stream. Click on “Options” and you will be shown three options:

  • Members Only (Featurable)

  • Members Only (Private)

  • Free to View (Featurable)

“Members Only” means that only your paying members can access this live stream. However, if you select the “Featured” option, you give us permission to feature the live stream in curated collections on the home page and around the app. If we decide to feature the live stream, any user on the app (whether they’re a member or not) can view this live stream. This is a great opportunity to receive additional exposure that may lead to audience growth both on and off the artst platform. If you select “Free to View”, the playlist will be available to anyone, including free users, and in turn, you also give us permission to feature this live stream.

Finally, you can add this live stream to a series where it will remain after the live stream has ended until deleted or moved. If you’re unsure what a series is or how to use them, check out this article.

If you’re happy with everything, click on the “Start” button to begin the live stream on your artst profile. If you want to check on the stream or respond to comments, please log into your artst account on the mobile app and find the stream.

To end the live stream on artst you must end the live stream on YouTube, otherwise the stream will continue. To start a new stream you can refresh the Go Live page on artst.
